"There are so many great visual moments everywhere in our lives, that I give thanks I see some of them. For this reason, I love to photograph and create art. I have been fortunate to travel broadly over the years enabling me to live and learn the beauty of other cultures, and incorporate them into my work". Janis Wilkins, a native New Yorker has been creating photographs and art for 20 years. San Francisco is where she began, first meeting Flora Purim and Airto whom she photographed extensively throughout the late 70's. This led to her interest in Brazil and subsequent trips. "It was the sound of Portuguese and the music that first gave me that incredible pull to go there, so exotic. The visuals in Brazil are rich also. I became enamored of color, space and geometry while composing photographs". After living
there for several years traveling, learning Portuguese, working and photographing,
she returned to California relocating to Los Angeles. She then worked
at CBS Records and independently designing and art directing album covers.
In 1989, she returned to New York City where she has worked in design
studios and agencies creating a wide variety of print and digital graphics.
She also continued to travel in this period back to Brazil, Europe and
Southeast Asia to photograph. |
